Aurora COIL Fair & Training

Aurora COIL Fair & Training

Aurora is launching the second and third building blocks of its Roadmap to Hubs. The COIL Fair and the COIL Training Event are now open to registration:

Aurora Global COIL Fair on Sustainability

The Coil fair will take place on the 23 April 2024. We invite teachers to fill in this form with general information about their field and interests.

Answering the form is also a sign of interest and a way to be updated on news about COIL and COIL training, so please be sure to answer it on time, even if you don’t have a clear idea of how to do a COIL.

A BULLETIN (a PDF document) gathering all the replies from the Form will be sent out to everyone who participated on April 8. Participants can read it through and find a potential match or someone they could collaborate with.

The professors who have participated will also receive the link to the Fair, which will take place on April 23. During the Fair, we will briefly explain what a COIL activity is and what the advantages of implementing this methodology are, so even if you have never done COIL before, add your information and feel welcome to the Fair!

During the fair, we will also introduce sustainability as a topic and discuss how to approach it from a COIL perspective. Designated instructors will have 1 minute to share their experience and/or be regrouped into several break-out rooms to brainstorm with each other.

The Fair is a “speed dating” opportunity for academics and coordinators to meet other instructors interested in finding work partners from Aurora member and associate partner institutions.

COMPLETE this FORM by 31st March 2024.

REMEMBER, finding a partner can be fun! YOU are finding someone who, like you, is creating community and joy for all of your students and yourself!

Aurora COIL Professional development online workshop

Between 7 and 21 May the URV in collaboration with the University of Minnesota will organize the first online training for lecturers on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning).

Hosted by the URV in the framework of Work Package 8 – Task Team 8.3: Building awareness and Task Team 8.2: Internationalisation at Home, in collaboration with the associate partner of Aurora, University of Minnesota and with the aim to reach all lecturers of the Alliance, this professional development workshop is designed to prepare and improve your COIL practice – whether you’re a professor planning your first COIL Collaboration or an experienced COIL instructor looking to improve.

COIL opens a world of possibilities for active, applied, collaborative activities that interest and motivate students while invigorating your teaching practice. Making good design choices for your COIL Collaboration takes careful consideration and an open mind. Preparing students to work with peers in another country online can enrich the experience and help ensure its success.

The online training addresses how to design a COIL activity, which are the basic elements of it, how to support students’ intercultural skills online, considerations for finding and maintaining a strong relationship with your COIL teaching partner, how to use reflection activities or how to create and assess the intended learning outcomes of a COIL activity.

The programme includes 3 synchronous sessions: 7, 14, 21 May 2021 (15:00 to 16:30h CET) and asynchronous forums and discussion. It is very hands-on and practical oriented and will include materials that you can afterwards use for your COIL practice.

Applying is simple! Please fill in this form (until 30th April) with general information of the course you could COIL with: https://forms.office.com/e/GswrhQ2dZW
